What’s that needs in “I saw that you were waiting…’?

Can someone confirm with me for these sentences

  • “I saw you were waiting for the bus” — incorrect
  • “I saw that you were waiting for the bus” — correct

Am I right?

What is good advice for a novice (and most likely even professional) when we start paying a visit to a friend or family member? What is the best way to explain?

Both sentences are correct. I think the first one is used more in speech.
