Which word should be used for less well known brands?
I am a call center tech support assistant, and I want to go to customer service by SMS. I want to tell them that their mobile is from “a less well known” brand. I want to call back a tech support assistant through the phone I am using. Why does the company decide to sell Xiaomi, not Apple? What words should I use in this courtesy context?

Otherwise, the OP could simply say that the customer’s phone is not a top brand. I believe that phrasing is the least equivocal, less offensive (or derogatory) and the easiest to understand.

I contacted my baker for a croissant. He would say “all that” but could not give me a recipe. “Butter or ordinary”, she said with a depreciative tone on the last word. I bought the butter one… I propose normal or generic. Is that okay? Generic products appear. Used in supermarkets.

What are the low-end brands and also off-brands? Is the item generic or brand specific? Is there a box in a tissue that is marked “Tissues”. You can see it here. Like all the other things, “ordinary” just means the same as any other; if we mean something special, then so do we. Can openers: an ordinary can opener only opens cans, while deluxe models may have a corkscrew or a knife sharpener included.
