What word describe a person who isn’t optimistic but has a positive outlook?

I need a word to describe someone who knows better than to expect the best, but can be happy in unfortunate situations.

I know phrases like “positive outlook” and “good disposition” could describe such a person, but I don’t know any single words that would.

What makes a person happy in our unhappy situations?

Your example described a glass half full person on an island in South Korea. In the link to Wiktionary, the definition is given as “optimistic”, but to me it is slightly less in that direction, more someone who would make the best of whatever life sent their way. If you really want one word, go with sunny.

How would I view everything if optimism was the core of my being? Why is an optimist going to be optimistic even if they will not be promoted. I doubt many would realistically be “not disappointed” if they’re asking for the promotion, even an optimist. I think content or contented would suffice for optimists. I have been called that.
