Why do us have double letters?

Why do we have double letters in words? Likewise apple. For example apple. The pp makes a p sound, and sound the same as if the word was spelt aple.

What reasons are there

  • why
  • double
  • letters
  • make
  • the
  • same
  • sound

as if it were a single letter??

Why do some words have double letters that have a single letter which makes the same sound? In my language in India, I only use 3 characters in a sentence.

How do consonants work if they need a double letter with a vowel?

Two consonants in a word give us different pronunciation like in:

apple and aple are different in pronunciation and little, better

  • (double t sounds like d ) ladder, bidder (without double
  • d, it wouldn’t be , but instead)
  • sunny (without double n would be instead of ) with fit (without
  • double t
  • I love that same type of stuff from beetle’s trees. They look similar to candy.
  • hoop, spoon have a longer sounding u. More than just being the endotype u of a knead-. , . As a verb you can still write spun , hup , because they are pronounced differently, and there is no longer long U in English as a letter.

The double consonants in well and apple are short as in pest and fast and both can be. If the P was not doubled in apple, the word would rhyme with maple, compare apple with dapple.
