I am trying to find a word or phrase that describes someone who performs a realistic check every time people suffer from misleading or over-exuberance. He/she is the “voice of caution” that prevents “fools from rushing in. ” “A sage with a sober influence”
What I want could be an eponymous adjective like panglossian (though obviously panglossian is almost an antonym for what I actually want) It could be an adjective – such as Cassandra – if such a character personified the above traits.
