RE: What is the word that describes people who care after themselves and are pragmatic?
What word or phrase describes people who are very practical and shrewd, and more concerned about achieving their goals than looking at softer sides such as friendships, etc.? How is self-centred and what can be done, more than self-centred! Is it a kind of character which one who inherits he could easily do very shallow acts to emerge as a winner/survive even if he has to betray his benefactors? Is it a very insecure kind of character that on the surface is not obvious to be like so.
If Tom gets involved with Jane, he might beg for her help. Jane helped Tom. In other cases, Tom could possibly make Jane his enemy so as to appear standing behind his boss.
What kind of people is Tom to be met, and why? In casual terms, he is pragmatic, shrewd, self-centred, etc. He gives wisdom where necessary and makes good example every day. What are some other words that encapsulate all these words and bring about the idea of such a character?
