Why is there so much ‘ridiculous’ about it?
I found an article on BusinessInsider which reads “The 21
Most Ridiculous Photos From The Homes Of Ukrainian Government Officials” I don’t
understand what’s so ridiculous about it? Is this word being used in a different context?
In fact, looking at the photographs, I’d have appreciated words like stunning, wonderful, jaw-dropping, stupendous.
In the context of ridiculous, the meaning of bold should be read as outrageous, which is
a synonym of stupid.
Debatable, preposterous, laughable, or contemptible It is very
preposterous (contrary to logic), and contemptible (worthy of contempt, despicable)
that public servants indulge in preposterous and contemptible, extraordinary displays of tastelessness.
And he is not the only powerful Ukrainian enjoying a ridiculously luxurious residence, but the Englishman Yuri Khmerchenko also has a House. What says “The level of luxury of these officials is ridiculous?
These photographs come from the private properties of people which were initially elected in a democratic way to run a country which belongs to the poorest in southern Europe.
I would not consider it wonderful that these people managed to enrich themselves to the extent of presumptuously recreating Versailles during the short period they were in power. It shows how these people have abused their power to shamefully enrich themselves beyond their imagination.
I realise there are people who would admire such effective behavior, and even call it wonderful. But for most people (and especially those that got to pay for it) this is horrendous.
Why are pictures deemed silly, not so much because they inspire you to laugh, but because they are absurd and preposterous. Why did the people get into these buildings all the while the rest of it was poor?
